What we built
  • Section fronts, trending lists, and article pages
  • Ad placements labeled and sized around the editorial layout
  • A morning newsletter, plus editorial, corrections, and AI policies

A digital publication lives or dies on three things: whether readers can scan it in a minute, whether ads can pay for it without wrecking the reading, and whether its standards are written down before the first correction. Uy Trending is a publishing platform built around those three, for tech, digital life, showbiz, lifestyle, and explainers in the Philippines.

The public site is a working demo. The stories, authors, and readers are fictional samples, not real news, and a banner at the top of every page says so, with a link for publishers interested in the platform.

The product problem

A news front page has more competing jobs than almost any other page. Uy Trending had to:

  • surface the lead story, what is trending, and what is new, all in the first screen;
  • organize many sections without turning the home page into a directory;
  • carry ad inventory in sizes advertisers buy, without hiding the journalism;
  • make editorial and advertising policies easy to find.

A front page built for scanning

The first screen pairs a lead story with two secondary stories and a numbered "Trending now" list showing each story's section and age. Topic chips under "Usap-usapan" (how-to, explainers, budget, AI, apps, scam alerts, GCash, P-Pop, and more) give readers a fast way in. Further down, "Latest" runs newest first, followed by section blocks for Tech, Showbiz, Digital Life, Lifestyle, and Explainers, a "Most read" list, and a video shelf.

Ads that know their place

Every ad slot is labeled "Advertisement" and sized to standard units: a leaderboard and billboard on desktop, in-feed slots between stories, half-page units in the sidebar, and a small anchor on phones. In the demo they appear as visible placeholders, named by position, so a publisher can see the whole inventory before a single campaign runs. The footer links to a page on how the publication handles advertising.

The company links include an editorial policy, a corrections page, and a page on AI and automation, alongside about, contact, and advertise. A publication that uses automation anywhere in its workflow should say how, and Uy Trending gives that a permanent address.

The morning email

"What Filipinos are talking about, every morning" is the newsletter's pitch: one short email with the stories worth your time, from tech and scam alerts to showbiz and explainers. The signup appears in the sidebar and again in the footer.

The design

The site is light and crisp, led by a blue "Uy!" mark, with magenta numerals for trending lists, a dark mode toggle, search, and sign-in. Article cards carry section, age, and reading time, so readers can judge a story before they open it.

What the work reinforced

  1. Plan ad inventory with the layout. Slots designed in from the start do not fight the reading.
  2. Publish policies before you need them. Corrections and AI pages are part of the product.
  3. Label demo content loudly. Sample news must never be mistaken for real news.

Continuing work

Uy Trending is a platform demo, and this story will be updated if it launches as a live publication. If you are building a media site, sketch the ad slots and the corrections page in the same week as the home page.
